Heraclitus describes everything as being Πάντα ῥεῖ (panta rhei) or in a state of flux with change being central to the universe itself.
Its been over two months since I last posted and in that time so much has happened in that time I’ve found myself thinking a lot about the nature of change, growing older and the way time appears to accelerate away.
After three years of living and studying in Exeter( which seemed like it would last forever) it’s over and I’ve come home to Cornwall saying goodbye to many close friends who blessed me massively over my years and who I am so thankful to have known. I’ve also been privileged to see Dan and Katy get married this summer along with other friends from home and know many friends who have recently got engaged and soon to be married. This is such an exciting stage of our lives.
I also want to say a massive thank you (sounds like I’m making an oscars speech!) to Mum, Dad and Esther and the rest of my family who’ve helped me through all the low points of uni life and who without a doubt I would not have made it through!
My parents and sister have just moved to Thailand to live and work and as result the house we’ve lived in practically all our lives we’ve moved out of and now I’m pleased to say we’ve found some tenants who will be renting it out. At the moment I am looking to go abroad with YWAM in february of 2009 to train with a team in Montego Bay, Jamaica before heading out to either West Africa or Chile to work in the community and be Jesus to the third world community there.
I’m not much of a writer but here is something I penned a while back that as best as I could describe how I think about change:
“Sitting by the sea with my toes pressed deep in the surrounding sand I watch the waves flow in and out, in and out. Each wave bringing with it something new and taking away the old. Should I be sad about what is past, the succession of moments behind me?
I look to the next wave which brings something NEW.”
Today I turn 22, I look forward to the future with the excitement of knowing I don’t really know what lies in my future but that God does, he is good and therefore it will be too. Change is something to be welcomed not feared. We should savour the good memories and make the most of now but as my Grandad said “The best is yet to be”.

Sam, Happy Birthday! 1) Great to see you blogging your most excellent thoughts 2) Sounds like your having a great moment of self awareness, its good that you are aware of the change around you and are processing it so well. So much of life we can turn off to, and we lose the moments where we can put a stake in the ground, collect our thoughts as we look back and take our steps forward. Looking forward to having you up in Scotland for our wedding. I really enjoyed your small verse, you are a good writer, I enjoy the way you communicate.
Have a great day Sam, Blessings
Liam
